5 Ingredient Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning

Confession: We eat lots of Mexican food in this house; probably more than average folks do. I blame living in Texas, & my mother.  Another confession: We have tacos on days besides Tuesdays; usually it's on a non-Tuesday.

I remember growing up, I looked forward to taco night, because these tacos were out of this world tacos. Never did a shell come of out a box or taste like cardboard, and never did my mother use a seasoning packet. Good ol' fashioned fried tacos, made like I had stepped into a taqueria somewhere. I still look forward to taco night & I only make them this way, unless we do soft tacos, because Benjamin is a sucker for a flour tortilla.

I, however, never nailed down the seasoning part & would never get that flavor I was looking for, until I discovered the seasoning that now graces & will forever grace my spice cabinet. Best part, you can spice them up or down; for us, its spiced up of course.

All of the ingredients can be found at your local grocery store; I get all my basic spices from Aldi, because you know I love me some Aldi.

Homemade Taco Seasoning

This seasoning can be made in bulk if you eat Mexican food more than once a week like us. I make mine & keep it in a mason jar.

1 Tbsp Ground Cumin
1 Tbsp Onion Powder
1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp Chili Powder
*1 tsp Crushed Red Pepper, for heat, if you want spicier*
Storage container with air tight lid

Pour ingredients into container. Seal & shake well to combine.

To use: Sprinkle 1 tablespoon per 1 lb ground beef into meat while browning.

So do your family (& yourself) a favor, throw away all those Taco Seasoning packets you've been harboring in your pantry & make your own for Taco Night. Best part, it costs so much less than those packets, plus doesn't have the added "who knows what" in them either.

Trust me, its worth the 5 minutes. Enjoy.
